Students in Anthropology 620.01 Hunter-Gatherers collaboratively made 
a wiki dedicated to foragers in autumn 2007. The motto of the course 
was: scientifically studying the diversity of forager societies

Clark Spencer Larsen, chair and professor of the Department of Anthropology, is the recipient of the American Association of Physical Anthropologists' (AAPA) Gabriel W. Lasker Distinguished Service Award for outstanding service to the field of anthropology and to the AAPA. (pdf)


Jeffrey K. McKee Elected as 2008 AAAS Fellow

Department of Anthropology Professor Jeffrey K. McKee has been elected a 2008 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).  The election of McKee and other AAAS Fellows was announced in the December 19th issue of Science.   The AAAS, the premier scientific society in the United States, is honoring Dr. McKee for “distinguished contributions to paleoanthropology, evolutionary biology, and science education.”   McKee, a native Ohioan, earned a Bachelors degree from Miami University, and an MA and PhD from Washington University in St. Louis.  Before joining the OSU faculty in 1996, McKee spent a decade as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Anatomy of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, where he is still an Honorary Research Associate.  Read more (doc)

PROFESSOR GUIDES OSU FORENSIC ARCHAEOLOGY TEAM

In two separate, unsolved murder cases, police have called on Ohio State's Forensic Archaeology Cold Case Team to help search for and identify human remains. The Department of Anthropology formed the team two years ago to provide assistance to law enforcement and other agencies in the recovery and analysis of human remains. FACCT is under the direction of Professor Sam Stout and comprises both undergraduate and graduate students interested in forensic anthropology who volunteer their time. Read more >
