"African Art Reframed: The Transformation of Museum Culture”
by
BennettaJules-Rosette (University of California, San Diego)
and
J.R. Osborn (Georgetown University)
Drawing on extensive conversations with curators, collectors, and artists, African Art Reframed: Reflections and Dialogues on Museum Culture proposes new methods for interpreting African art inside and outside of museums and remixing the results. In this talk, Bennetta Jules-Rosette will discuss the book’s nodal model of museum classification.
J.R. Osborn will then present the theory and method of “unmixing.” Unmixing encompasses the location and separation of semiotic and stylistic elements that compose an artwork.
