The Office of Distance Education periodically hosts panels of faculty, associated faculty, staff, and other experts to discuss topics related to distance education course design, instructional delivery, assessing student learning, and more. The aim of these Teaching Forums is to foster a community of distance education professionals while providing a venue for meaningful reflection and discussion.

In this special event, we acknowledge and celebrate the significant contribution graduate students make toward the teaching mission of the College of Arts and Sciences by assembling five graduate students with experience teaching online courses in our College for a panel discussion on the topic.

Description:

The College of Arts and Sciences Office of Distance Education will host a Teaching Forum focused on the graduate student teaching experience in our College. This moderated discussion will provide opportunities for the panelists to share what they have learned as online graduate student instructors, advice for graduate students teaching online for the first time, suggestions for how we as a college community can support graduate student instructors, and their notions about the future of online learning in higher education and what this might mean for their career plans.

Faculty, Associated Faculty, Graduate Students, and staff are invited to join us for this discussion and also bring their own questions for the panel.

Panelists:

Lauren Chivington (Department of English)
Kaita Gurian (Department of Anthropology)
Tamryn McDermott (Department of Arts Administration, Education, and Policy)
Morgan Meleca (College of Public Health, teaches for the Center for Life Sciences Education)
