Interrogating the ethnographic backstage — the background negotiations that rarely make it to the printed page — can help engaged anthropologists navigate the internal power dynamics encountered during fieldwork and clarify the kinds of political alignments we form. This talk will reflect on the ethnographic backstage of past conflicts and apply those lessons to my present-day negotiations with educational organizers.
