Luxin Yin graduated from the Medical Humanities and Social Sciences program at OSU, focusing on improving doctor-patient communication. Her previous thesis examined Wuhan Diary, the first COVID-19 pandemic diary written by Chinese author Fang Fang, with a research focus on how people received and processed health information shared through Fang Fang’s real-time blog, and how this influenced their health decisions.
Luxin has now joined the Anthropology Department, where her research continues to explore access to health information. She investigates where, how, and what information is accessed, why some information is not, and how these factors collectively impact people’s health decisions and behaviors. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, she aims to unravel the complexities surrounding access to and availability of health information. Her current research focuses on the actions and behaviors of people with diabetes on social media, with a focus on East Asian (especially Western South Chinese) population.
