Doctoral candidate Madee Green presents at the EAA conference in Rome
On August 30th, doctoral candidate Madee Green presented her dissertation research at the annual European Association of Archaeologists (EAA) conference in Rome, Italy. The EAA meetings host a wide array of international anthropologists focused on exploring theoretical, applicable, and site-specific questions in archaeological contexts. Madee presented a part of her dissertation research, "The Impact of Biocultural Strategies on Prehistoric Jomon Biological Diversity", in the specialist session "Advances in Japanese Archaeology". Specifically, Madee discussed the importance of framing evolutionary forces, such as gene flow, in a biocultural context when investigating patterns of past and present human variation. Madee joined Japanese, Italian, German, and French scholars in the session: all of whom focus on different aspects to better understand the history of the Japanese Archipelago and those who have, and do, inhabit it. Madee will be finishing her dissertation this year, and we look forward to seeing her final products!
