Nora Warnick Awarded an Undergraduate Research Scholarship!
We are thrilled to announce that Nora Warnick has received a substantial Undergraduate Research Scholarship!
Nora’s project is a craniodental comparison of the size of two different subspecies of chacma baboon (Papio ursinus ursinus, and P. u. grisiepes). The grey-footed baboon (P. u. grisiepes) is theorized to be the result of past introgression between the yellow baboon (P. cynocephalus) and the chacma baboon. Previously, it had been found that, contrary to the prevailing description of the two taxa, there was no metric comparison between them. Nora hopes that this investigation can help elucidate the mechanisms behind the morphological cline we see in the Papio genus and even provide insight into the mechanisms of morphological variation in hominin species.
On behalf of the Department of Anthropology, congratulations Nora!
