2023 Annual Departmental Award Winners

2023 Department awardees

We want to recognize our 2023 annual Departmental Award winners for their hard work over the past year:

Outstanding Undergraduate in Anthropology Award: Stephanie Fannin.
Stephanie will be starting in our PhD program in the 2023-2024 academic year with her advisor, Dr. Barbara Piperata. For her PhD, Stephanie wants to study breastfeeding as a biocultural phenomenon and pursue a project on how the socioecological context influences human breast milk composition.

Best Undergraduate in Anthropology Writing Award: Hayden Bidinger.
This fall, Hayden will be attending the University of Chicago to begin a graduate degree to continue studying anthropology and looks forward to conducting sociocultural research in the future.

Most Creative Work in Undergraduate Anthropology Award: Adam Rahl.
Adam is a German and biochemistry major here at Ohio State. He is spending the summer in Northern Minnesota and is interested in pursuing medicine, creative writing, and Germanistics in the future.

Most Creative Work in Graduate Anthropology Award: Steve Rhue.
As Stephen finishes his field work and move forward with his degree, he has every intention of continuing his writing, in order to further erode the barriers between academic and public scholarship, perhaps eventually becoming an editor for a journal and/or magazine.

Outstanding Graduate Student Teacher Award: Alex Tuggle.
Alex Tuggle is currently writing her dissertation and preparing to graduate next spring. She plans to pursue a career in biocultural research in Mexico.

Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation in Anthropology Award: Dr. Emma Lagan.
Emma will be continuing with the role of NAGPRA Regional Coordinator, which she began last year.

Congratulations, grads!
